Cloud And Sun DJ Services Weekly Blog

Hi And Welcome to my regular blog. I will try and keep it humorous which may mean mildly colourful language at times. I hope you enjoy it and won't be offended. In order to protect the guilty; no Customers will be mentioned by name unless it's complementary and even then I may opt for anonymity. This is only because I wanted to impress you by putting in the word "anonymity."  If I can think of any other slightly more pointless and annoying rules, I will let you know in due course.

  1. Hi all. I had such a tiring weekends work this week. Saturday night I was at Fontwell House with the lovely Searle Family. Read their review on my guestbook page. Lot's of talking and not a huge amount of dancing. After the gig I asked if everything was ok. "Oh yes" they said. "Everyone was saying the music was great". Phew. Just a lot of talking and catching up with conversation then. This happens quite regularly. People haven't seen each other for ages so they spend the best part of the night talking and drinking with me as more of a backdrop. That's fine but I never know what they think until afterwards! Oh well, I've never had a bad reaction yet so I guess they can see I'm doing my bestest...

So why so tiring? Well after getting to bed at about 3am we were up again at 7:30am for the wedding fayre at Goodwood park Hotel on Sunday. With bleary eyes I said to Becky: "This is the last Jolly wedding fayre I'm doing this year" or words to that effect. I managed to get some footage so they'll be a shortish video following on soon. I was pleased with the number of visitors and got to do quite a bit of talking. Also met a few upstat local suppliers so I'll be posting their links soon. I've basically managed to fill in the gaps for things like a photographer/video-ographer etc. that I haven't got yet. Not for want of trying though! I've met quite a few "decent" experts at gigs over the years and asked them if they want to do a "link swap". After all, fairs fair. If you're going to promote their work on your site, the least they can do is return the favour. It's not like I'm too crumby or bad mannered or that the show isn't up to it or anything. I have called and emailed but the folks concerned have not bothered to get back to me so we'll see how this goes. I think it should work okay. They are all good at what they do. I know. I saw their work on display. Even though the video-ographer was playing his music bedded promo video across my show (the other exhibitors were all relieved when he finally shut down the same tune at the end of the day!), I couldn't argue with the quality of his HI-DEF stuff. Just like watching a TV soap (as one lady said) except with the subtle difference (I said) that unlike "Eastenders" no one could be seen punching and stabbing fellow guests in the back every five minutes.

So that's what I'm doing this week. Oh and I've decided that I've been charging too much for venue uplighting so as from now I'm offering all six units as a package for the grand total of a mere £80.00. Who wants to light up a venue with just two units after all? I think it makes sense to bring the lot.

Ok well that's enough waffle about wedding fayres for one year. Let's spread a bit more laughter as is always the tradition around here:

Have a great week and don't get too serious!
  2. Hi all. I had a cold the week before last. God damn it I thought. Or words to that effect. Not again. Some folks advised me to take 1000mg of vitamin c for it some time ago and I always try to follow this regime despite the fact that it doesn't really work. Now those that know me will know I've become quite interested in non drug therapy and nutrition in general. So anyway, I was reading something in a book called "cancer - Why we're still dying to know the truth" (credence.org) and I recall some patients being injected with huge amounts of vitamin c with no ill effects. Ok I thought. even though that powdered stuff I've got from Holland and Barrett is called Vitamin c but is missing so I'm told, the full bioflavanoid part, I'll try upping the dose this time. So I started putting 3000mg about 4 times a day under my tongue and added a few haliborange A,C,and D combination pills for good measure. The cold had all but gone in 48 hours! I have to include a disclaimer here as I'm not a doctor so of course if you try this at home it will of course kill you so please stick to the man made chemical compounds sold in super drug etc. Much safer than nature and of course we wouldn't want to do those poor 'ickle pharmaceutical conglomerates out of their meager billions would we?

Onto Sunday and I did my first wedding fayre in all my ten years (nearly) of business. I wonder what it'll be like I thought. Well pretty boring actually as only about ten people turned up in about four and a half hours! Luckily I didn't have to pay for my pitch. It was complimentary. I'd been called in to take the place of another DJ who'd pulled out at the last minute. Still at least I got a dress rehearsal (a demo of every bit of kit I now have together). This Sunday it's Goodwood Park hotel and there'll be limo rides/ horse and cart stuff, fashion show (guess who's supplying the music?) and all sorts so I'm expecting it to be somewhat busier indeed. Do come down and see us if you're in the area. You get a complementary drink of Champagne I think from memory and the bar alone at Goodwood is worth a visit in itself. Lovely big fireplace and smokey medievalness vibe goin' down peeps. I'm drifting into teenage speak. Love the "chav pilots" in the Armstrong and Miller programme by the way. If you haven't seen it go here now!  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n9DN0EE0ocU

    Have a brilliant week,

    Mike.
  3. Hi all. We watched that "Avatar" film last week. Wow! I recall watching Freddie Crugar's last film in 3d against my better judgment and it wasn't this good. I turned to a bloke on in the next seat and asked "do you know where the toilets are?" "Don't ask me mate" He said. "I'm in the movie!" Back to freddie claw hands. Did anyone do what I did and put the glasses on at the start of the film, only to discover sometime later and sporting a slight headache that only halfway through was the actual 3d bit? Ever felt a bit of a prat? Good enough.

Good gig on Saturday last. The bloke who's Birthday it was (Billy) seemed well impressed with the show. He want's to become a dj himself one day. Nice bloke. The funniest thing was a little girl called page who with her mate was supplying me with most of the requests at the start  as everyone else was drinking and talking. She asked me all sorts of questions about the show saying she too wanted to do my job one day. "I'll just get a chair" she said "as my feet hurt". So over she went in her fairy outfit and got a chair twice as big as herself. Plonked it down next to the console and stood on it to get a better view of my mixing! ha ha! Don't you just love kids and their pragmatism!

Well can't talk any longer as I'm off to get a long overdue haircut.

    Have a lovely week!
